PhD Workshop

Nordic Network on Disability Research organises a pre-conference workshop for PhD students in conjunction with the NNDR2023 conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Workshop theme is ethics in disability research. This will be discussed over two days both by senior researchers and PhD students. Ethics is approached as principles, commitments, reflection, and practice that goes beyond procedural ethics. Participants are invited to approach ethics from perspectives relevant for their current stage of research: we welcome papers addressing influences drawn from different academic discussions as well as papers focusing on ethically sensitive moments and ethical practice at different stages of the research process.

First session of the workshop consists of short keynotes followed by a discussion on ethically sensitive moments in research. Keynote speakers: senior lecturer/associate professor Kristina Engwall, Uppsala University, and senior research fellow Reetta Mietola, University of Helsinki.

Workshop calls for papers from PhD students currently working on questions related to research ethics. These will be discussed in small groups consisting of peers and senior researchers. Since there is room for a limited number of paper presentations, we warmly welcome PhD students also to participate in the discussions without their own paper.

The workshop takes place in Reykjavik, at the University of Iceland, on May 9-10. The workshop is free of charge. Only registrations from PhD students are considered.
